CLAY

We stock a curated selection of clay bodies to purchase in the Studio.

Choosing the Right Clay

Choosing the right clay is an essential part of the making process, as each clay body responds differently to forming techniques. Smooth, fine clays are ideal for wheel throwing, allowing for fluid movement and refined forms, while grogged, sandy clays offer strength and structure, making them better suited for handbuilding and sculptural work. Lightly textured clays sit beautifully in between, supporting both handbuilding and wheel work.

In our studio, we bisque fire to 1000°C and work with midfire - stoneware clays for glaze firings. We are always happy to help you choose the right clay for your project.
